Department of Import and Export Control is responsible for issuance of import and export licenses for items subject to import and export control and debiting of licenses. In the process, the Department isengaged in:
- Issuance of import licenses for Pharmaceuticals
- Issuance of import licenses for Vehicles & Vehicle Parts
- Issuance of import licenses for Chemicals
- Issuance of import licenses for Communication Equipment
- Issuance of import licenses for Miscellaneous Items
- Debiting of Import Licenses
- Revision of Import and Export Licenses
- Gazetting of Standards
The Departmentcoordinates with relevant institutions in importation and exporting of items identified by the Controller General of Import and Export as requiringmandatory standardization and collaborates with the Sri Lanka Standards Institution in publishing specifications of standards relevant to such items.
- Issue operation guidelines for commercial banks on import and export regulations
- Prepare and publish regulations regarding policy decisions taken by the Government from time to timeon import and export
- Assist Director General of Customs where import and export regulations are violated
- Instruct commercial banks and other relevant institutions on methods of payments in importation
